How I invented French

 I got hushed a lot as a kid.

While the news was on,

when adults talked,

on buses and in shops.

I was hushed a lot.

It could've been my voice I thought,

or what it was sayin', 

I didn't know.

So one day I invented French.

It just came out at a random meeting

with one of my mother's friends.

And we stood there- 

the two perplexed women and me-

a freshly brought-to-live French girl.

I noticed my imaginary words

caught all of the attention.

My mum- embarrassed, the other one impressed.

I got hushed much less.

I no longer had to read faces 

and wait for them to pause.

This French, my French was a fearsome weapon,

that made everyone shut up!
